Answers:

Do I have to be a resident of either Utah or Florida?

No you do not, both Utah and Florida offer non-resident CCW permits!

Do I have to pass a shooting test?

No you do not. Neither Utah or Florida require a shooting proficiency test. That said, we highly recommend you seek professional training and practice regularly. We can help you arrange for a trainer if you so desire.

Can I carry a concealed weapon in California?

NO. Neither the Utah or Florida CCW permit is currently recognized by the state of California, there are ongoing efforts to change this but at this time they are not recognized.

How long is my permit good for?

The Utah permit is good for 5 years and the Florida permit is good for 7 years.

Can I carry any pistol?

Neither Utah or Florida currently restricts what pistol you choose to carry. Please check with each state to make sure you are complying with their firearms regulations.

That depends on which CCW permit you obtain, the Utah, the Florida or both. Go here here for the list of states for each permit and combined.

I have heard the term reciprocity and recognize in regards to other states, what is the difference?

Reciprocity means the states have a written agreement between the two, recognize means they honor the permit but there is not a specific written agreement between the two states.

How much does the state charge for a permit?

Currently Utah charges $65.25 for their permit which is good for 5 years and Florida charges $117 for their permit which is good for 7 years.

Besides this class and the state fees, are there any other costs involved?

There are three costs to consider above and beyond our class and the state fees:

  1. You are responsible for postage of your application to each state.
  2. Florida requires your fingerprints be taken by a law enforcement agency, each agency charges their own rate. We have seen it between $0 and $20.

Can I bring my gun to class?

NO! Absolutely no firearms or ammunition allowed in class.

I belong to a group of shooters and we are all interested, can we set up our own class?

Where are the classes held?

Our classes are often held at gun ranges, gun shops, local hotels, private homes, private offices, club houses and more. Our scheduled classes will state the location for each class. If you would like to arrange a private class or a group class we can always come to you!

How long are the classes?

The classes by regulation must include 4 hours of lecture. In all with time taken for meeting and greeting and questions afterwords they tend to last about 5 hours.

How old do I have to be?

You have to be at least 21 years of age for both the Florida and the Utah CCW permits.

I am not a U.S. citizen can I still get this permit?

For Utah if you were born outside of the United States you need to show proof of citizenship or alien registration. For Florida you must be a United States citizen or deemed a lawful permanent resident alien by the Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS).
